I agree with the part of your post about thinking outside the box
Someone needs to do some serious thinking and reimagine this whole deal.
I do not believe simple relegation will work. For every team that was great last year who is fighting to stay above the line, there will most likely be at least one other team (probably more per) that is getting blown out and loses more than it wins. I just don’t think it’s the answer currently. Maybe if we look over a certain period of years or a cumulative average or something that would be the right answer and provide incentives currently not in place.
It would also hurt recruiting even further as the Bama’s, Clemson’s, Ohio State’s of the world would be able to sell the fact they never drop, which will only further increase the stranglehold they have on recruits, money, exposure, etc. Relegation would cause as many or more headaches than it fixes IMO.
